PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Exelon is seeking a candidate for a Sr. Gas Originator position who will be working in the Origination Group developing and managing a portfolio of structured gas transactions that support and enhance its existing wholesale gas portfolio, gas generation assets and retail load business. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of originating and closing profitable transactions. The individual will be a strong team player with a focus on developing a collaborative culture with internal Company stakeholders.

The candidate will have experience in Texas/Gulf Coast, Mid-Con and Western US gas markets, and will have a thorough understanding of the physical delivery capabilities and supply demand balances in these market regions, with detailed understanding of tariffs, operating procedures, and physical capabilities. Key responsibilities will include responsibility for deal functions including preparation of product offerings, delivery arrangements, contract negotiations, mid/back-office coordination and follow-through on all aspects of the internal approval process. Ability for frequent overnight travel will also be required.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Originate new transactional opportunities that enhance earnings, reduce risk or otherwise optimize the Company’s wholesale gas portfolio and manage relationships with new and existing suppliers and customers.
2. Negotiate all financial and operational terms of structured transactions, coordinating with traders, schedulers and analysts
3. Lead the internal deal team through all aspects of transactions to successful closing. Ensure compliance of transactions with risk and credit policies and insure accurate accounting.
4. Maintain relationships with key suppliers, service providers and trade groups.
5. Develop a business plan and market strategy for the target markets for which the Senior Originator will lead. Serve as the internal and external expert on all issues impacting individual customers in the target markets. Business plan and market strategy will include assessment of market competition, industry trends, emerging customer challenges and changes in the marketplace.

Qualifications

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree required in technical or business-related area or equivalent experience. MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years of transactional experience
  • Transactional experience with natural gas pipelines, producers, storage, transportation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of North American natural gas markets and market design
  • Knowledge of the Texas / Gulf Coast region including pipelines, storage facilities, producers and end users
  • Demonstrates strong capabilities in negotiating complex terms of structured wholesale transactions and acquisitions, financial analysis of structured wholesale transactions and acquisitions
  • Ability to develop, maintain and grow relationships (internal and external counterparties)
  • Ability to build consensus on transactions and strategy and then work independently keeping management informed, while also operating within authority parameters
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to achieve approvals for complex transactions
  • Ability for frequent overnight travel
