Demonstrates a mastery of skills and extensive subject matter knowledge in carrying out assignments associated with the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of Interior Structural Fire Brigade, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response, Incident Command and Permit Required Confined Space Rescue training programs. Responsible for development and delivery of classroom and hands on training in the above areas. Responsible for program management of one of the above programs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (means principal, main, major or most important duties / accountabilities that the employee performs) 
  1. Drives personnel performance improvement through training. Schedules, coordinates and conducts performance-based training programs as required in accordance with Exelon’s TSD model, departmental procedures and regulatory requirements. This includes “hands on” interior structural firefighting requiring the use of appropriate PPE as well as SCBA. Supervise all aspects of training activities and trainees.
  2. Create, maintain and revise training materials as necessary, utilizing the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation process. Assures the training programs are maintained current, in accordance with regulations and incorporate information gained from: Federal and state regulations and requirements, INPO and Exelon significant operating experience reports, NRC circulars, bulletins, informational notices, plant design change and backfit information, plant procedure changes and revisions, new regulations, pertinent NFPA standards and industry pest practices. Create and maintain auditable training records and reports required to document training program activities.
  3. Design and construct/have constructed training props, to provide realistic plant-like training opportunities for trainees.
  4. Travel to other facilities to perform benchmarking, oversight activities, audits and assessments as required.
  5. Supports the fleet in areas of business initiatives, project management, EP duties and special projects.


  • High School diploma and 10+ years’ experience
    Associates Degree Fire Sciences and 8+ years’ experience
  • Meet requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, Firefighter level II.
  • Meet requirements of NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Instructor level II.
  • Meet requirements of NFPA 472, Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents, Technician level.
  • Meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications, Technician level, Rope and Confined Space Rescue.
  • 2+ years’ experience as an Instructor.
  • Experience in power plant operations.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations; NRC, OSHA, NFPA.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience as a member of a community emergency response organization, recent or current
  • Strong working knowledge of TSD process activities and regulatory requirements
  • Completion of Exelon fire brigade, hazardous materials, confined space rescue team and incident commander training

This position involves a high degree of physical activity and the ability to utilize an SCBA in an IDLH environment.

Responsible for course/program activities related to assigned subject matter area. Provides direction to trainees, subject matter experts, support personnel and vendors/contractors. Provides project leadership as assigned. Provides functional supervision in training environments in accordance with classroom management standards.

Assists Training Manager in establishing department goals and cost estimates that result in budgeted activities for the assigned area including specific project or subject matter areas as assigned. Indirectly responsible for significant financial impacts related to course/program validity and subsequent plant/employee performance.

Involves periodic travel.
